If you find yourself missing the excitement of playing Motorstorm online, then you can thank the group of fans called PlayStation Online Network Emulated (thanks, VGC).
Called PSONE for short, the group has successfully emulated Sony’s servers. So now anyone can connect to them and play Motorstorm online with their friends like in the good old days. In order to play online, you’ll need a PS3 and a copy of Motorstorm. If you want to use a PS3 emulator, you’ll have to be whitelisted on PSONE’s Discord server in order to prevent abuse of the system.
Players then have to change their console network settings by changing their primary and secondary DNS. That way, players will be playing on PSONE’s emulated servers. The original servers have been shut down, so PSONE is providing a great opportunity for those who miss Motorstorm’s high octane antics. The group also provides support for games like Warhawk, Killzone 2, and Twisted Metal Black. And they’re looking to add more titles like Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Wipeout HD.
If you’re interested in giving this a go yourself, you can head over to their site to give it a look. However, it’s important to remember that the group isn’t associated with Sony. They also don’t accept donations. Also important to note is that emulation is completely legal, but you must do so using your own copies of games and hardware. So make sure you own a copy of Motorstorm before trying this out.
