PS5 Faceplates Company Challenges Sony: ‘Try & Sue Us’

A company that plans on selling custom PS5 faceplates has challenged Sony to “come at them and try to sue them.”

You may remember a story from last year involving an independent company by the name of PlateStation 5, who after receiving a cease and desist from Sony were forced to cease production of their faceplates, as well as change their name to CustomizeMyPlates.

However following the threats from Sony, CustomizeMyPlates had a change of heart and believed that they do have a right to produce and sell the custom PS5 faceplates – and it seems that another company feels the same.

Canadian-based peripheral firm by the name of Dbrand will soon be selling custom black PS5 faceplates which could prove very popular as many fans have been calling for a black PS5 alongside the white version that was released by Sony.

Dbrand, who also develops mobile peripherals, announced last week on Reddit that mass production of the PS5 faceplates will begin soon.

We’ll be entering mass production on PS5 Faceplates by year’s end,” said the company in a post from December 2020. “However, we won’t be accepting orders until we have stock at our Toronto HQ, ready to ship.

Introducing: PlayStation 5 Faceplates from r/dbrand

At this time prices are not provided by Dbrand in regards to the black faceplate, but stock is expected to arrive sometime this year.

Going by the images provided via their website they do look quite neat and you can register to be notified when orders can be made.

The same Reddit post included an image with the caption “sue us, Sony.” Following the post, a fan asked if Dbrand were worried that Sony will come at them with a cease and desist.

When asked the question Dbrand simply replied: “We encourage them to try” which is fighting talk if I ever saw it.

In an ideal world I would love independent companies to have the freedom to sell PS5 faceplates, especially as mobile phone covers are so freely sold. Who knows, perhaps Sony will become more relaxed when they inevitably launch their own official line of PS5 faceplates?

It’s not yet clear if Sony will take up the PS5 faceplates company’s challenge and “come and sue them.”
