Ghostwire: Tokyo has received a free visual novel from Tango Gameworks and Bethesda that explores the sixth months leading up to the events of the game.
The visual novel, called Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude, follows KK, the ghost that possesses the main game’s protagonist Akito. As described by the PlayStation blog:
“The story of Prelude focuses on KK, a wisened detective investigating mysterious phenomenon set roughly six months right before the events of Ghostwire: Tokyo.” It will see KK follow a lead regarding a missing friend. And in the process comes across “urban legends coming to life…”
Game director Kenji Kimura also said of the game, “By having people experience and enjoy the events that occurred before the events in [Ghostwire: Tokyo] through a different genre made by a different team, it could help open up and widen people’s interpretations of the world and universe we’ve created.”
And unlike the main game, Prelude is aiming for a more casual atmosphere. “There’s a different, kind of more relaxed atmosphere in the visual novel,” said scenario writer Takahiro Kaji. “KK is a veteran, accustomed to the situation, working within his realm of expertise and there’s good teamwork with Rinko’s group.”
Ghostwire: Tokyo is the latest game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. It’s an action-adventure game with some horror influences, and will see players taking on a variety of spirits. Mikami also recently commented on the rumoured Resident Evil 4 remake, saying that he hopes it has a better story.
The visual novel is currently only available on PS4 and PS5. But it will also be coming to PC on March 8.
