The Last of Us TV series is the second-highest-watched HBO product in over a decade, behind a Game of Thrones goliath.
This week, The Last of Us adaptation from HBO made its long-awaited premiere, and it did not disappoint. Already, critics and fans alike are calling the HBO series the best video game adaptation ever. However, we’re only one episode in, so it’s important not to get carried away.
The Last of Us series is proving to be a huge success
As reported by Deadline, the new series which is a faithful adaptation of The Last of Us game from Naughty Dog garnered 4.7 million viewers in the US for its debut episode. This made it the highest-viewed episode on the HBO network since Boardwalk Empire in 2010 which generated 4.81 million viewers.
The Last of Us is now officially HBO’s biggest launch not related to Game of Thrones in about 13 years. Speaking of which, remaining at the top of King’s Landing in terms of viewers, is 2022s House of the Dragon which garnered a whopping 9.986 million viewers.
Of course, we’re only talking about the numbers related to the United States. So it will be safe to assume that the numbers for The Last of Us TV series debut episode will be a lot higher than the 4.7 million worldwide. To be fair, the same can be said for House of the Dragon.
