As of this month, you will no longer be able to buy all the original Metal Gear Solid games digitally on consoles.
As reported by TheGamer (via ResetEra), Metal Gear Solid 4 leaves PS Now on May 17th. This is a little strange, considering that MGS4 is a PlayStation exclusive.
Once Metal Gear Solid 4 has left PS Now, it will not be possible to buy MGS1, MSG2, MGS3 or MGS4 on console. This of course includes spin-off titles such as Peace Walker, as well as the HD Collections.
However, it will still be possible to buy the original trilogy digitally on PC. As an MGS fan, it really is a shame that this iconic series from Konami will be disappearing into the shadows, perhaps never to be seen again.
Please don’t leave, metal gear solid!
It is worth keeping in mind that if you already own the four MGS games digitally, you will still be able to access them. So, you won’t have to worry about that. This story also reminds us of the fragile nature of digital video games.
Digital media is very convenient, especially for some disabled gamers, as it’s one less thing to worry about having to cross the room to change discs. Thankfully, I still collect physical games, especially those that are considered to be retro.
So, if you still own physical copies of the Metal Gear Solid franchise or any other, it will be worth keeping hold of them for as long as possible. Because you never know when the digital versions might be taken away forever.
